Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has reportedly returned to work following his yearly vacation.
Osita Nwanisobi, director of corporate communications at CBN, confirmed the news in a statement, stating that Emefiele started back up on Monday.
Before the bank’s monetary policy committee meeting, scheduled for the following week, the CBN president is rumored to have returned to the nation.
In advance of the first monetary policy committee (MPC) meeting of the year, set for January 23–24, 2023, the governor “resumed with fresh vigor to discharge his duties,” according to the statement.
“Mr. Emefiele remains committed to performing the task before him in line with his oath of office and the policy direction of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“While thanking the public for keeping faith with the bank, we urge Nigerians to continue to support the policies of the bank aimed at ensuring a stable financial system and the Nigerian economy in general.”
The Department of State Services (DSS) recently looked into Emefiele and asked an Abuja federal high court for a warrant to arrest him for allegedly funding terrorism.
However, the court rejected the case on the grounds that the secret police had not offered any hard proof to support its assertions that the governor had been complicit in money laundering and the financing of terrorism.

Later, a Maitama-based federal capital territory (FCT) high court issued an order preventing the DSS from detaining Emefiele.
